\"\"Aloha! My name is Iwakilaukapu Herrod, but please feel free to call me Iwa. I was born and raised on O\u02bbahu and have a genuine love for caring for and working with children. I have more than 20 years of experience caring for children of all ages, from infants as young as three months old through teenagers. Over the years, I have worked with children in schools, after-school programs, camps, tutoring programs, and private homes. My childcare experience began as a tutor and after-school program assistant, where I supervised children, helped them with schoolwork, and made sure they had a safe, positive, and engaging environment. I have also worked as an assistant cheerleading coach and camp counselor, where I led activities, played games, encouraged teamwork, and helped children build confidence while trying new things. One experience that is especially meaningful to me was volunteering over 8 years at a summer camp for children and families affected by cancer, where I worked with children ages 7\u201318 and helped make their week as fun, supportive, and memorable as possible. I have also taught young children in a Sunday school setting, including toddlers, using age-appropriate lessons, activities, music, and play. I also had the opportunity to participate in a mission trip to South Africa that focused on outreach and connecting with local youth. That experience gave me another opportunity to encourage, support, and spend meaningful time with children and teenagers from a different community and cultural background. In addition to working with children in group settings, I have extensive experience providing one-on-one childcare for private families. I have cared for babies and toddlers from infancy through their preschool years and have also provided childcare and tutoring for older, homeschooled children. I am married and a mother of two, and I currently homeschool my children, which has given me an even greater appreciation for the patience, flexibility, organization, creativity, and responsibility involved in caring for children. I would describe myself as nurturing, patient, dependable, responsible, attentive, energetic, and fun. I believe children do their best when they feel safe, respected, encouraged, and genuinely cared for. Safety is very important to me, and I am currently HSI certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED for adults, children, and infants. I also hold a current ANAB-accredited Food Handler Card through AAA Food Handler, which further reflects my commitment to providing safe and responsible care. Some of my favorite things to do with children are reading, singing, dancing, arts and crafts, playing games, spending time outdoors, and creating activities based on each child’s individual interests and personality. I especially enjoy music and hula and love finding ways to incorporate singing, movement, imagination, and creativity into our time together. I am Hawaiian and enjoy sharing the culture and beauty of Hawai\u02bbi with visiting children and families. I have danced hula since elementary school, know some Hawaiian language, and enjoy sharing Hawaiian music, stories, words, and traditions in a fun and age-appropriate way. I have also had the opportunity to live in New Zealand, which helped deepen my appreciation for different cultures, communities, and ways of life. I love spending time at the beach and am very comfortable around the ocean. Growing up in Haleiwa, the beach has always been a big part of my life, and I enjoy swimming, playing at the beach, and spending time outdoors with my family. For me, childcare is about much more than simply supervising children\u2014it is about helping them feel comfortable, secure, included, and excited to enjoy their time in Hawai\u02bbi. My goal is to provide every family with loving, dependable, and professional care so parents can relax and enjoy themselves knowing their children are safe, happy, and having a great time!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
