Iris Martinez
Hello! My name is Iris Martinez, and I was born and raised in California! A random life goal of mine is to be a polyglot one day! I speak English, Spanish, and have a background in French. Currently, I am teaching myself Korean. Also, I am a volunteer in a pigeon community where I am being educated in pigeon and am learning the language and culture. I dabble here and there with the guitar, piano and ukulele and like to learn about music theory. I love to travel and like geography, I also like to learn about different cultures and history was one of my favorite subjects in school. My mother was a child caregiver and was my initial introduction into the nanny world. I began sitting for date nights and worked my way up to overnight sitting for multiple children for multiple days. I am a curious person and like to learn! My characteristic strengths are love, kindness, creativity, safety and advocacy for children. For this reason, I have taken a lot of different routes when it comes to school. I have an AA in social science, and a bachelor’s in teaching English as a second language.Throughout this time, I have always found my way back to being a nanny. I love the innocence of children; how big the world is and how much they constantly take in! I try to be the type of caregiver I would have wanted as a child. The last few years I have worked with a few families and have worked with an agency in the bay area. During my time in the last agency, I gained a lot of experience from working with different children of different ages, needs and temperament daily. Learning to adjust to a different child in a different home every day was a challenge but something I believe I gained skills and insight from. I have cared for children between 5 months to up to 12 years of age. My responsibilities have been anywhere from diaper changing, feedings, teaching a child how to read, helping with homework, school and activities drop offs and pickups, staying overnight, light cleaning and feeding pets in the home. I am naturally a creative person and become a child when I am with children. I use my imagination to keep children entertained– anywhere from making up our own games, drawing, music, mazes, puzzles, obstacle courses, etc.!
