Toney Ryan
Aloha! My name is Toney Ka’ipo Ryan and I have a Bachelor degree in Leisure Science and Kinesiology, and a Masters degree in Social Work specializing in Health/Mental Health. Currently, I work as a Behavioral Health Specialist with the Department of Education. I work with elementary school children to provide emotional and social support to students receiving 504 or Special Ed services. My experience with children includes being a Preschool teacher at First Chinese School, PT PE teacher at Kokohead Elementary School, PT Afterschool teacher at Sacred Hearts Academy, Summer Fun leader as college school credit at Iroquois Point (military base), Case Worker at Susannah Wesley Community Center, and I’ve helped with after school and summer programs for four years. My work experience focused on teens and adults after I graduated with my MSW. I enjoy working with children of all ages and backgrounds. I love ocean and beach activities like outrigger canoe paddling, stand up surfing, and volleyball. In my spare time, I coach canoe paddling club and volleyball with middle schoolers. I’ve also volunteered with Special Olympics, ocean and aina (land) clean up projects and Surfrider Foundation. I played piano for 5 years (8-13 yrs old). I can play the ukulele and taught basic ukulele lessons to elementary school children in summer fun. I love working with keiki and their ohana as I believe that they are the makeup of our community; and their health and happiness matters!
