Loretta Skiscim
Loretta was definitely one of our finest sitters and a kind spirit. She offered only encouragement and positivity to anyone that she encountered. She is now living in Washington state and while we miss her working with us as one of our sitters, we know she won’t stop spreading the aloha spirit anywhere she goes.
Aloha families! My name is Loretta. I come from a family of 10 kids and I am the youngest. I knew at a early age that I wanted to work with children. I have been working with kids for close to 30 years. I love reading with kids, being creative and exploring in nature. I believe it’s important for kids to be heard and love the input they give when I do activities. Working with kids is my passion not just a job. I have my AA in Early Childhood Education. I have a certificate of achievement in ECE in working with Culturally Diverse Families with Honorable Mention and a certificate of achievement in Teaching with Honorable Mention. A teacher permit and I hold a current child/infant CPR cert. Working with children has been my life passion. I initially started school to attain my B.A in child psychology and hope to finish in the near future. Although I started babysitting when I was in Junior High, most of my history with children has been in a classroom setting. I have been a director, a teacher and a teacher Assistant. For 3 years I worked a Private school both as a Teacher Aide & conducting an after school daycare program, running it by myself with 25 or so kids ages kindergarten to 6th grade. I helped with homework gave them a snack and played out door games with them and small activities. Next, I took a position as a Lead Teacher at an after school program called Rainbow River within a year I had the privilege of being promoted to Director. As the Director I was responsible for the supervision of children and staff. I led all group activities bought and prepared snack handled the budget. I kept up on the children’s files, handled all field trips. I enjoyed this position for 8 years. From there I got a job with Encompass Community Services. For 12 years I was a Teacher Assistant. I helped the director lead and run the classroom of 17 children. I Supervised children, implemented curriculum, led parent conferences, did social and emotional and academic assessments. I have worked with a variety of children from ages 3 to 12 years old. I still have friendships and connection with children that are grown up with their own families that had been in my care from years past. I have volunteered with a group called Jacobs Heart that helps kids with cancer. I love connecting with kids that have a challenging time adjusting to new environments and children that are shy and slow to warm up. Children are our chance to make the world a better place for future generations. I love being outdoors and playing in the dirt. I am full of heart and soul when it comes to being with kids. I would love to share my experiences and passion in helping you with your needs and adult time with peace of mind and confidence that your children are having fun and in good hands. I look forward to meeting and working with and for you. Mahalo!
