Kelsie Snow
Hi to all! My name is Kelsie and I’m currently in the process of earning my degree in music therapy with minors in psychology and American Sign Language. My goal is to become a music therapist who can also welcome the Deaf community. This profession will allow me to work with children and adults who are dealing with dysregulated emotions, trauma, mental health, memory loss, autism, etc.
I am currently working as an assistant teacher at the Early Education Center with Seagull Schools for the 2 year old classroom; I have been doing so since October of 2020. Over the past 5-6 years, prior to my job at the school, I cared for many children ranging from infant to eight years old for family and friends, as well as people met through care.com. Additionally, I have a lot of childcare experience from volunteering at my church. My mom was the choir director at our church since before I was born and I was always brought to choir practice. As I got older this led to me to doing volunteer work while my mom was doing her job! I grew up volunteering at my church caring for children whose parents were attending a service or choir practice. I also enjoyed directing the children’s choir for the Christmas services!
I have a great passion for music; I play a bit of guitar, ukulele, and piano. I love incorporating music into learning because of it’s ability to open up the mind in so many ways! I know an intermediate amount of sign language, but am on my way to being fluent. I think signing is a great thing to introduce to children because it not only teaches them another way to communicate, but also works on the fine motor skills young children are developing.
In my free time I enjoy doing yoga and surfing as much as possible! I love to spend time outdoors but can also enjoy a day indoors for arts and crafts or a movie.
